Reconstructive surgery is a discipline of plastic surgery performed on parts of the body affected by congenital defects, developmental abnormalities, trauma, infection, tumors or disease.
During breast reconstruction specifically, plastic surgeons recreate breasts after mastectomy using tissue expanders or repositioning tissue from other areas of the body. Fat Grafting, Expanders & Implants, Latissimus, TRAM and Nipple/Areola/Skin Sparring are common techniques used to enhance the breast after cancer removal.
