Facelift & Neck Lift
Our skin loses volume and elasticity as we age, causing it to sag and wrinkle. The skin on the face and neck is often the first place we notice these visible signs of aging. For many patients, a facelift and neck lift procedure is the best treatment option for restoring a more youthful look.
At Renaissance Plastic Surgery in Detroit, facelift and neck lift surgery is performed by our highly skilled and experienced board-certified plastic surgeons. Our surgeons meticulously customize each patient’s procedure and employ advanced surgical techniques, so they can deliver natural-looking and long-lasting results.
What Is a Facelift and Neck Lift Procedure?
A facelift, also called a rhytidectomy, involves removing excess skin, lifting sagging tissue, and smoothing out wrinkles and folds. Facelift surgery targets cosmetic concerns in the middle and lower parts of the face. The plastic surgeons at Renaissance Plastic Surgery specialize in the SMAS facelift, lateral SMASectomy, extended SMAS, and deep plane lift techniques, which address both superficial and underlying tissue to ensure the most natural-looking results possible. Our surgeons tailor each facelift procedure we perform to the individual’s unique needs.
A neck lift involves removing excess skin and fat along the jawline and under the chin. This procedure can restore a more defined jawline and slimmer neck contours, as well as reduce wrinkles.
Some patients can achieve their cosmetic goals with a facelift or neck lift, alone. However, combining these plastic surgeries is often the optimal solution for patients who have aesthetic concerns in the mid-face, lower face, and neck areas.
What Is am SMAS Facelift?
SMAS facelift techniques modify the Superficial Muscular Aponeurotic System (SMAS), a deep tissue layer that provides structure to the face. By lifting and tightening the SMAS layer, our surgeons achieve more natural-looking results without the “worked-on” appearance associated with traditional facelifts.
One of the advantages of SMAS facelift techniques is that shorter incisions are used, resulting in minimized scarring. Another benefit is that by targeting the underlying tissue, rather than relying solely on skin tightening, this technique delivers superior outcomes and increased patient satisfaction.
If you’re considering a facelift in Detroit Metropolitan area, our experienced surgeons can assess your unique needs and develop a personalized treatment plan for achieving a more refreshed and rejuvenated look that you love. Contact us today to schedule a consultation and discover the transformative benefits of the SMAS facelift technique.
Am I a Good Candidate for a Facelift and Neck Lift?
If the following apply to you, you may be an ideal facelift and neck lift candidate:
• You are a healthy individual with no medical conditions that could interfere with your recovery after the procedure.
• You are unhappy with the appearance of your face and neck due to sagging skin and wrinkles.
• You do not smoke (or you are willing to quit).
• You have realistic expectations for the outcome of your neck lift and facelift procedure.
• You are willing to follow all pre- and post-operative instructions provided by your surgeon.
It is important to note that this procedure is not the only option for rejuvenating the neck and face. Patients experiencing very early signs of aging may be better candidates for non-surgical treatments, such as dermal fillers or Botox. Our surgeons also offer mini facelift surgery, which is a less invasive alternative to a full facelift that targets jowls and other signs of aging along the jawline.
The surgeons at Renaissance Plastic Surgery are members of the American Society of Plastic Surgery and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, and they take exceptional care to identify the optimal treatment approach for each patient they treat.
A consultation with one of our surgeons is the best way to find out which facial rejuvenation procedure is right for you. At this appointment, the surgeon will ask you about your treatment goals, examine your facial structure and tissues, and review your medical history.
Before the Procedure
Preparing for a facelift and neck lift requires that you:
• Stop taking blood-thinning medications, as directed. Medicines such as aspirin, Ibuprofen, Warfarin, and vitamin E could increase the risk of bleeding and delay recovery.
• Stop smoking at least two weeks before the date of surgery.
• Arrange in advance for a friend or family member to take you home after your facelift and neck lift procedure.
The Facelift and Neck Lift Procedure
Since a facelift and neck lift is a surgical procedure, anesthesia will be administered to ensure that the patient does not feel any pain or discomfort during the surgery. To begin, the surgeon will mark the areas on the face and neck to be operated upon.
He will then make the necessary incisions behind and in front of the ears. He will remove excess skin and tighten the underlying neck and facial muscles and connective tissues. Excess fat will also be removed. Finally, the incisions will be closed with sutures. Surgical drainage tubes may be placed to collect excess fluid, and the face and neck will be wrapped with bandages.
Facelift and Neck Lift Recovery
Swelling and bruising can be expected after a facelift and neck lift procedure. Applying ice packs and taking over-the-counter or prescription pain medication, as directed, can help to reduce swelling and ease discomfort. You will need to return to our office for suture removal five to seven days after surgery.
It is important to keep your head elevated and avoid putting any pressure on the treatment area. You will also need to refrain from strenuous physical activity for about a month. Based on how your healing progresses, our surgeon will approve a gradual return to your normal activities.
Our experienced team is dedicated to providing comprehensive care and guidance throughout your recovery journey. Feel free to reach out if you have any concerns or questions during the healing process.
Facelift and Neck Lift Results
This procedure can effectively address neck and facial skin laxity and restore more lifted and youthful-looking contours. You will notice initial improvements within a few weeks of your procedure, though it will take several months for swelling to dissipate completely. Once the area has fully healed, you will be able to enjoy your final results. You will see your full results around three months after surgery at the latest.
Facelift and neck lift results can last 10 to 15 years. To maintain your enhanced look for as long as possible, moisturize your face every day, avoid direct exposure to the sun, and practice healthy lifestyle habits.
How Much Does a Facelift and Neck Lift Cost in Detroit?
The cost of your facelift and neck lift procedure will depend on various factors, including anesthesia and facility fees. Additionally, the price can be impacted by the treatment techniques employed and the total time needed for the doctor to perform the surgery.

Patient Testimonials
This was the best decision I have ever made. I met with Dr. Stefani and hired him & received a full mommy makeover. I had met with several doctors as well, as this was a big decision to make. Dr. Stefani made me feel the most comfortable and he has a great bedside manner. Also, to be completely honest after surgery …He exceeded my expectations. I almost cried after I saw what I looked like after surgery. I had 3 c sections prior and nothing was ever the same after that. I feel better than I did before kids and I wish I did this sooner. If you are even slightly hesitant …don’t be! Dr. Stefani is AMAZING.
Dr. Williams is one of the most caring and talented doctors I have ever met! I was diagnosed with breast CA 2 years ago and was referred to him for reconstruction after choosing to do a bilateral mastectomy. Boy was I scared !! He put me at ease right away with great information on what to expect along and seemed to generally care about me even though we had just met! I knew I was in the best hands! Now after 2 years, not to sound weird, I get compliments on my "new" breasts all the time, even my family Dr gave them a big WOW! Cherry on top, he did a Tummy tuck on me to even out new look, and also get compliments all the time!
Dr. Miguel is the absolute best!! I've had rhinoplasty in the past with another surgeon, and I came in for a consultation with Dr. Miguel for an alar base reduction (narrowing of nostrils). He was so honest with his answer, and he told me it was not needed. He said the procedure was unnecessary, and to leave my nose just the way it is. He told me all the things that could go wrong if I were to go forward with this procedure. I am so grateful for his honesty, and I appreciate his conservative approach. If you are looking for a rhinoplasty surgeon and want honest feedback with natural results, please consult with Dr. Miguel.
