Breast Reduction
If your breasts are disproportionately large, you can reduce them in volume with the help of a breast reduction in Detroit Metropolitan. Do your breasts weigh you down and make you feel uncomfortable in public? Breast reduction surgery, or reduction mammoplasty, can help you size down your breasts by removing extra fat, glandular breast tissue, and skin.
Not only do oversized breasts make it difficult to exercise and play sports, they also lead to a range of chronic pain issues. Neck, back, and shoulder pain are common problems, as are rashes beneath the breasts and bra-strap indentations. Your posture can also be negatively affected.
A breast reduction can address all of these issues effectively. Thanks to this plastic surgery procedure, you can achieve smaller breasts that are a better fit for your frame and proportions.
Are You a Suitable Candidate for Breast Reduction Surgery?
You make a suitable candidate for a breast reduction if:
• You do not smoke.
• You are not obese.
• You do not suffer from diabetes or any other heart-related issues.
• You have realistic expectations.
Your Breast Reduction Consultation
When you visit our clinic for a breast reduction consultation, your surgeon will go over your complete medical history. He will also perform an examination.
During the consultation, it will be important to clearly express your goals and expectations for the procedure. This will help the surgeon create a surgical plan that best meets your needs.
Your surgeon will describe the procedure in detail and will go over preparation and aftercare directions. He will also take this opportunity to inform you about your anesthesia options.
If your surgeon believes that you are a fit candidate for the surgery, only then will the operation be scheduled. Patient health is our topmost priority.
In order to prepare for surgery, you will need to stop taking blood-thinning medications. Smoking must also be avoided for several weeks before the procedure.
How Is a Breast Reduction Performed?
A breast reduction surgery is performed under anesthesia. Once the anesthesia takes effect, incisions are made. The following incision options are available:
• The anchor incision is made around the areola, down to the breast crease, and horizontally in a curve across the crease. This allows for a large degree of tissue removal.
• A moderate degree of tissue removal may be achieved with the lollipop incision, which is similar to an anchor incision but does not involve the horizontal curve across the crease.
• A smaller degree of removal is achieved with the donut incision, in which two concentric circles are created around the areola.
Along with excess skin removal, excess fat is removed using liposuction, and glandular breast tissue is taken out via scalpel excision. Finally, the surgeon stitches the incisions closed.
Breast Reduction Recovery
For a few days after the surgery, the patient may experience some tenderness, bruising, and swelling on the breasts. It can take a few months for the swelling to go down, and cold compresses can aid in this process.
The patient will need to take time off from work to recover and must avoid physically taxing activities like heavy lifting. A surgical bra must also be worn.
The results of a breast reduction are permanent. However, it is important to remember that aging and weight gain or loss may still alter breast shape and size.
How Much Does a Breast Reduction Cost?
If you are looking into breast reduction surgery for health reasons, insurance will usually cover its cost. Price generally varies based on factors like the amount of tissue being removed, the type of incisions being used, and the total surgical time.

Patient Testimonials
This was the best decision I have ever made. I met with Dr. Stefani and hired him & received a full mommy makeover. I had met with several doctors as well, as this was a big decision to make. Dr. Stefani made me feel the most comfortable and he has a great bedside manner. Also, to be completely honest after surgery …He exceeded my expectations. I almost cried after I saw what I looked like after surgery. I had 3 c sections prior and nothing was ever the same after that. I feel better than I did before kids and I wish I did this sooner. If you are even slightly hesitant …don’t be! Dr. Stefani is AMAZING.
Dr. Williams is one of the most caring and talented doctors I have ever met! I was diagnosed with breast CA 2 years ago and was referred to him for reconstruction after choosing to do a bilateral mastectomy. Boy was I scared !! He put me at ease right away with great information on what to expect along and seemed to generally care about me even though we had just met! I knew I was in the best hands! Now after 2 years, not to sound weird, I get compliments on my "new" breasts all the time, even my family Dr gave them a big WOW! Cherry on top, he did a Tummy tuck on me to even out new look, and also get compliments all the time!
Dr. Miguel is the absolute best!! I've had rhinoplasty in the past with another surgeon, and I came in for a consultation with Dr. Miguel for an alar base reduction (narrowing of nostrils). He was so honest with his answer, and he told me it was not needed. He said the procedure was unnecessary, and to leave my nose just the way it is. He told me all the things that could go wrong if I were to go forward with this procedure. I am so grateful for his honesty, and I appreciate his conservative approach. If you are looking for a rhinoplasty surgeon and want honest feedback with natural results, please consult with Dr. Miguel.
