When Suzanne Tobey, 68, a Clarkston psychotherapist, decided to have neck lift surgery, she began shopping around for the best doctor she could find. Renaissance Plastic Surgery was her third stop.
“I was aging well except for my neck,” she explains. “In my profession, I feel it is important to maintain a more youthful appearance, and my neck was aging faster than I wanted,” she admits.

The neck lift procedure was conducted in one of the surgical suites of Renaissance Plastic Surgery in Troy. Suzanne opted for general anesthesia. The procedure took approximately two hours. (please change as needed to ensure this section is exactly what happened. We didn’t talk about it during the interview, I have since realized)
“I was nervous, very nervous,” Suzanne admits. “But I knew I wanted to get rid of my chicken neck.”
After the procedure, “I was in pain for a few days, but Dr. Miguel was so compassionate and sensitive to my needs. He had warned me I would experience quite a bit of pain, but he still felt so bad for me and did his best to make me comfortable.”
Within a few days, the pain subsided and Suzanne was feeling great again. “It was so worth it!” she is thrilled to announce. “I look 10 years younger!

A neck lift, also known as platysmalplasty, is a surgical procedure designed to rejuvenate the neck and improve the visible signs of aging by removing excess fatty deposits under the chin, loose neck skin or muscle banding in the neck that creates abnormal contours.
“There are many contributing factors to the loss of youthful contours in the neck,” reports Dr. Miguel. It can be hereditary, environmental or even stress related. When a patient’s neck doesn’t match the upper facial appearance, they may seek the expertise of a plastic surgeon, Dr. Miguel finds.
He assures all prospective patients that the procedure is very safe, and patients will look very natural. In addition, the incisions made (usually three) are strategically placed and almost impossible to see. “They essentially disappear during the healing process,” he reports.
