Your Rhinoplasty Consultation

During your consultation, your surgeon will ask you about your cosmetic and/or functional goals for rhinoplasty. He will also tell you about the procedure in great detail, focusing on aspects such as preparation and the healing process. Feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Your surgeon will examine your face and your features, developing an in-depth understanding of proportions and nasal structure. He will also go over your medical history to ensure a safe operation. A surgical plan will then be created.

Ethnic Rhinoplasty

Many surgeons perform a “one-size-fits-all” rhinoplasty without any regard for cultural features, always creating a Western nose regardless of ethnic background. Ethnic rhinoplasty is a type of rhinoplasty performed to improve the nose’s appearance while also ensuring that patients’ cultural features are preserved. Septoplasty

When the dividing structure of the nasal cavity, called the nasal septum, is crooked, this condition is called a deviated septum. It can sometimes be congenital, it may come about as a result of nasal trauma, or it may occur due to the aging process.

A deviated septum causes one nasal passage to be much smaller than the other, leading to obstructed breathing. Sometimes, pain and nosebleeds can also occur.

A deviated septum can be corrected with the help of septoplasty surgery. This form of functional rhinoplasty repositions aspects of the septum and may involve removal of septal cartilage or bone when necessary. After all healing is complete, proper airflow is restored.

Turbinate Reduction

The nasal turbinates are structures located inside of the nasal passages. These small structures are made of bone and are protected by mucous membranes. They naturally swell in order to filter out germs, and they serve to heat the air that we breathe in before it travels to our lungs.

When the turbinates become overly swollen or inflamed, this can cause issues like obstruction of breathing, snoring, nosebleeds, and sinus infections.

With turbinate reduction, or turbinoplasty, these issues can be corrected, improving quality of life. This procedure can surgically remove bone from the turbinates, reducing them in size, resulting in a clearer nasal passage. Changes will be noticeable in around six weeks.

Revision Rhinoplasty

After a primary rhinoplasty procedure from another surgeon, patients are sometimes unhappy with their results. To correct their results, they may visit our surgeons for revision rhinoplasty surgery, also known as secondary rhinoplasty.

Sometimes, revision rhinoplasty is performed for treating new breathing difficulties that were created by the primary rhinoplasty procedure. In other cases, it is done to address aesthetic issues.

Your Rhinoplasty Procedure

Rhinoplasty is typically performed under general anesthesia. Two types of incisions may be used during a nose job:

Closed Rhinoplasty

This is the most common type of rhinoplasty. The incisions are made inside the nostrils so that there are no external marks. This technique offers many benefits, including reduced nasal tissue irritation, a reduced chance of post-operative edema, a smaller chance of nasal tip support reduction, and a faster recovery.

Open Rhinoplasty

This procedure is recommended for patients who need to have extensive work done on their noses. It is best suited for when the patient needs revision surgery or considerable grafting. In open rhinoplasty, the surgeon makes an external incision between the nostrils, on the area of tissue known as the columella. The skin is then lifted, giving the surgeon increased visibility of and access to the nasal bones and cartilage.

After incisions have been made, the nasal structure is altered through changes in soft tissue, bone, and/or cartilage. Finally, incisions are closed using tiny sutures.

Recovery After Rhinoplasty

The details of the recovery process and exact time needed will depend on the extent of the procedure and patient-specific factors. Following the surgeon’s post-surgical instructions is the best way to speed up recovery.

In most cases, patients are advised to rest for the first week or two. This is the phase where the patient will most likely be wearing a splint to support the nose. It is especially important to keep the head elevated during rhinoplasty recovery.
During the recovery period, the patient is given medications to manage discomfort. They can use a cold compress for swelling reduction.

Most patients can return to work after a week or two, depending on how quickly the recovery process is progressing. Strenuous activities must be avoided for at least three to six weeks after surgery to allow for expedient and complete healing.

The Cost of Rhinoplasty

When determining the price of a rhinoplasty procedure, a number of factors are considered. The techniques utilized, anesthesia fees, and total surgical time may all play a role in rhinoplasty’s overall cost. Functional rhinoplasty is often covered by health insurance. Plastic Surgery rhinoplasty, on the other hand, is not covered.
